Cross Border Patients

Cataract Surgery is one of the most common treatments undertaken by patients travelling from the Republic of Ireland.

You can access this Cataract Surgery in the same way you'd get public healthcare in Ireland. The healthcare must be planned and you will need a valid referral from a GP.

While you must pay for any healthcare that you get, under the NI Planned Healthcare Scheme you can then apply to the HSE for reimbursement towards the cost of the healthcare.

NI Planned Healthcare Scheme treatment is only available to Irish residents who qualify for public health care.

Having private health insurance does not exclude you from NI Planned Healthcare Scheme. But you cannot use your private health insurance to access your referral for healthcare abroad.

Only a GP or a consultant you are attending in a public capacity can refer you to the NI Planned Healthcare are Scheme.

You do not need to be on a waiting list to become eligible for this scheme.

It’s simple to apply for treatment under the NI Planned Healthcare Scheme.

To use health services in Northern Ireland and be refunded under the NI Planned Healthcare Scheme you must:

• Be referred to the health service abroad
• Get prior authorisation if it is required for your treatment
• Apply for a refund of your costs

To get a refund of the costs that you pay for your treatment, you and our Cross Border Healthcare Team will complete the HSE invoice form and submit it with the invoice and receipt from Solasta Healthcare.

The refund will only be made to the patient.

By Car 

The Boulevard is situated on the main A1 route from Belfast to Newry. Follow the A1 and take the exit towards Banbridge/A26. Keep left, follow the signs for Bridgewater Park and merge onto Cascum Link. Go through one roundabout and The Boulevard will be on your right. When entering the main Boulevard car-park Solasta Healthcare is situated at Unit 70 on the right-hand side of the park.

From Dublin - Follow signs for Belfast and continue on M1. When you reach Newry continue on A1 and after ~25km take the A26 exit towards Banbridge. Keep left, follow the signs for Bridgewater Park and merge onto Cascum Link. Go through one roundabout and The Boulevard will be on your right. When entering the main Boulevard car-park Solasta Healthcare is situated at Unit 70 on the right-hand side of the park.

Parking and Access

Multiple free dedicated parking spaces are available just metres from our clinic entrance. Solasta Healthcare have also set aside some parking bays exclusively for holders of a valid disabled persons' parking permit (Blue Badge).

Wheelchair access is available next to these free parking spaces.

The Boulevard have over 1300 free car and coach parking spaces available on site. With ample provision of parent and child and disabled parking space signposted throughout.
