What is oculoplastics?
The skin and structures around the eyes are among the most delicate in the body — and they’re central to both how you see and how you look. Oculoplastic surgery covers two closely related areas.
Functional (medical)Procedures that protect your eye health, comfort and vision — correcting problems with the eyelids, lashes and tear-drainage system.
Cosmetic & rejuvenationRefining the appearance of the eye area — refreshing tired, heavy or ageing eyes with natural-looking, balanced results.
Conditions & concerns we treat

Eyelids turning in (entropion)
Eyelid lumps, cysts & lesions
Watering eyes & blocked tear ducts
Ingrowing eyelashes (trichiasis)
Eyelid spasm (blepharospasm)
Cosmetic & rejuvenation

Lower eyelid surgery (under-eye bags)
Procedures explained
Blepharoplasty (eyelid lift)Removes excess skin and fat from the upper and/or lower lids to refresh tired, hooded or puffy eyes — often improving both appearance and, where heavy upper lids affect vision, your field of view.
Ptosis repairTightens or repositions the muscle that lifts a drooping upper eyelid, restoring a more open eye and improved vision.
Tear duct surgeryTreats persistent watering or recurrent infection from a blocked tear duct by restoring a clear drainage pathway.
Lid lesion removalCareful removal of eyelid lumps, cysts and lesions — with biopsy where needed — and meticulous attention to a neat, natural result.

Oculoplastics FAQs
What is oculoplastic surgery?
Oculoplastics is the specialist area of ophthalmology dealing with the eyelids, tear ducts, eye socket (orbit) and the surrounding tissues. It combines delicate surgical skill with an eye for natural appearance, treating both functional (medical) problems and cosmetic concerns around the eyes.
Is eyelid surgery just cosmetic?
Not at all. Many oculoplastic procedures are functional — for example, lifting heavy or drooping lids that block vision, correcting lids that turn in or out, removing eyelid lumps, or treating watering eyes. Some procedures are purely cosmetic, and many improve both function and appearance at once.
Will I be awake during the procedure?
Most oculoplastic procedures are carried out as day cases under local anaesthetic, so you're awake but completely comfortable. Your surgeon will explain exactly what to expect for your specific treatment.
Is there much recovery time?
This varies by procedure. Some bruising and swelling for a week or two is normal after eyelid surgery, and most people return to their usual activities quite quickly. Your surgeon will give you tailored aftercare advice.
Will eyelid surgery affect my vision?
Functional procedures often improve vision — for instance, lifting heavy upper lids can widen your field of view. Your surgeon will discuss the expected outcome for your individual case.
Will I have noticeable scars?
Oculoplastic surgeons specialise in discreet results, placing incisions within the natural folds and creases of the eyelids wherever possible, so any scarring is well hidden and fades over time.
