Maintaining a healthy heart is essential for overall well-being, yet heart disease remains one of the leading causes of illness and mortality worldwide. Early detection of cardiovascular risk factors is crucial to prevent complications and support long-term heart health. Our Heart Health Test Profile offers a comprehensive blood assessment to evaluate cardiovascular function and identify potential risk factors before they escalate into serious health issues.

This specialised test measures key biomarkers that influence heart health, including cholesterol levels, lipid balance, and markers of inflammation or cardiac muscle stress. By analysing these indicators, your doctor can gain detailed insights into your cardiovascular status and develop personalised strategies to protect your heart. These strategies may include lifestyle and dietary modifications, targeted supplementation, or medical interventions tailored to your individual needs.

Why a Heart Health test matters

Heart disease often develops silently over many years, with no symptoms until something serious happens. This advanced panel goes beyond a basic cholesterol check — measuring your full lipid profile, apolipoproteins, lipoprotein(a), homocysteine and inflammation (hsCRP) — to build a detailed picture of your cardiovascular risk.

The earlier you understand your risk, the more you can do to protect your heart. Every result is reviewed and explained by a GP, with clear guidance on what it means and any next steps.

What to know before your appointment

Fasting required (8–12 hours)

Fasting for 8–12 hours prior to your test is recommended for accurate cholesterol and triglyceride results (only consume water during this period). Fasting for extended periods can affect your results or cause adverse reactions during sample collection.

Avoid strenuous exercise

Please avoid strenuous or unaccustomed exercise for 48 hours before your appointment, as it can raise creatine kinase and skew your results.

Stay hydrated

Please ensure you are well hydrated prior to your appointment, as being dehydrated may make the blood draw more difficult.

Biotin (Vitamin B7)

Biotin (Vitamin B7) is a common component of many multivitamins and is also available as a standalone supplement. Biotin is known to interfere with laboratory testing and can affect various blood results. Unless prescribed by your doctor, we recommend stopping supplementation at least 48 hours prior to testing. If the supplement has been prescribed, please speak with your doctor before stopping.

Heart Health FAQs

What does this test measure?
Your full lipid profile (total cholesterol, cholesterol/HDL ratio and triglycerides), apolipoproteins and lipoprotein(a), plus homocysteine, high-sensitivity CRP and creatine kinase.
How is this different from a basic cholesterol test?
As well as cholesterol, it includes apolipoproteins, lipoprotein(a), homocysteine and inflammation markers that can refine your cardiovascular risk beyond a standard lipid panel.
Do I need to fast?
Yes — fasting for 8–12 hours beforehand is recommended (water only) for accurate cholesterol and triglyceride results.
Should I avoid exercise before the test?
Yes. Avoid strenuous or unaccustomed exercise for 48 hours beforehand, as it can raise creatine kinase and affect your results.
How long do results take?
Results are typically ready within 48 hours of your sample reaching the laboratory, after which a GP reviews and explains them.
Will a doctor explain my results?
