Kidney Health
Your kidneys are vital organs responsible for filtering waste, balancing electrolytes, and regulating fluid levels to maintain overall health and wellbeing. Proper kidney function is essential for removing toxins, supporting blood pressure regulation, and maintaining metabolic balance. Conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and chronic kidney disease can impair kidney performance over time, often progressing silently without obvious symptoms.
Your doctor may recommend a Kidney Health Test if you have pre-existing conditions such as diabetes or hypertension, which increase your risk of kidney damage. It may also be advised if you experience symptoms such as blood in urine, painful urination, frequent or urgent urination, or difficulty starting urination. Early detection is crucial for preventing further kidney damage, avoiding complications, and maintaining long-term health.
Why a Kidney Health test matters
Your kidneys quietly filter your blood, balance your fluids and minerals and clear waste — usually without you giving them a thought. Kidney problems often develop with few or no symptoms, so blood testing is one of the best ways to spot changes early.
This in-depth panel goes well beyond a basic check, assessing filtration, electrolytes, minerals and proteins for a complete view of kidney health. It's especially useful if you have risk factors such as high blood pressure or diabetes — and every result is reviewed and explained by a GP.
What's included in your Kidney Health test
Sixteen markers across filtration, electrolytes, minerals and proteins.
Kidney function & filtration
- Creatinine — a key marker of kidney function and filtration.
- Cystatin C — a sensitive marker of kidney filtration rate.
- Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) — calculates how efficiently your kidneys filter.
- Urea — a waste product that indicates kidney and metabolic function.
- Beta-2-Microglobulin — indicates kidney filtration efficiency.

Why choose Solasta
What to know before your appointment
Stay well hydrated
Being well hydrated is particularly important for kidney tests — dehydration can affect markers such as creatinine and eGFR, as well as making the blood draw more difficult. Drink water as normal before your appointment.
Avoid heavy protein & creatine
Try to avoid a very high-protein meal and any creatine supplements for 24 hours before your test, as both can temporarily raise your creatinine.
No fasting required
You don't usually need to fast for this test — please follow any specific instructions given when you book.
Biotin (Vitamin B7)
Biotin (Vitamin B7) is a common component of many multivitamins and is also available as a standalone supplement. Biotin is known to interfere with laboratory testing and can affect various blood results. Unless prescribed by your doctor, we recommend stopping supplementation at least 48 hours prior to testing. If the supplement has been prescribed, please speak with your doctor before stopping.
