Muscle & Joint Health

pexels-yankrukov-6815366

Maintaining strong muscles and healthy joints is essential for overall mobility, flexibility, and quality of life. Muscle and joint discomfort can arise from a variety of factors, including ageing, intensive physical activity, inflammation, or underlying health conditions. Symptoms such as persistent joint pain, stiffness, swelling, muscle weakness, cramps, or unexplained fatigue may indicate underlying issues. Individuals who engage in regular or high-intensity physical activity, have a family history of arthritis, or suffer from conditions such as osteoporosis, inflammatory disorders, or previous musculoskeletal injury may particularly benefit from testing.

At Solasta Healthcare, our Muscle & Joint Health Blood Test provides a comprehensive evaluation of key biomarkers associated with muscle function, joint health, and inflammatory activity. By analysing these markers, your doctor can better understand the causes of muscle weakness, joint stiffness, or pain and develop personalised management strategies tailored to your needs.

Why a Muscle & Joint Health test matters

Aching joints, stiffness and muscle pain are common — but the causes range from everyday wear and tear to autoimmune conditions, gout and muscle strain. Blood testing can help point to what's behind your symptoms. This panel looks at markers of autoimmune joint disease, muscle damage and gout to help build a clearer picture.

These markers contribute to the picture rather than give a single diagnosis, so every result is reviewed and explained by a GP, who'll interpret them alongside your symptoms.

What's included in your Muscle & Joint Health test

Four markers across autoimmune activity, muscle and gout.

Markers tested
  • Anti-Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide (Anti-CCP) Antibody — an early marker for rheumatoid arthritis, helping identify autoimmune joint conditions.
  • Rheumatoid Factor (RF) — detects autoimmune activity linked to joint inflammation and chronic conditions.
  • Creatine Kinase (CK) — an enzyme that indicates muscle damage or stress, often raised in athletes or after strenuous activity.
  • Uric Acid — elevated levels may contribute to gout, joint pain and inflammation.

What this panel can help investigate

Autoimmune joint diseaseMarkers linked to conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis.
GoutUric acid levels relevant to gout and related joint pain.
Muscle damageCreatine kinase, which rises with muscle stress or injury.
Joint inflammationInsight into inflammatory activity affecting your joints.

What to know before your appointment

Avoid strenuous exercise

Avoid strenuous or unaccustomed exercise for 48 hours before your test, as it can significantly raise creatine kinase and skew your muscle results.

Watch diet & alcohol

Uric acid can be affected by a very rich, high-purine meal or excess alcohol. Eat and drink as normal, but try to avoid a heavy meal or heavy drinking the night before.

Stay hydrated

Please ensure you are well hydrated prior to your appointment, as being dehydrated may make the blood draw more difficult.

Biotin (Vitamin B7)

Biotin (Vitamin B7) is a common component of many multivitamins and is also available as a standalone supplement. Biotin is known to interfere with laboratory testing and can affect various blood results. Unless prescribed by your doctor, we recommend stopping supplementation at least 48 hours prior to testing. If the supplement has been prescribed, please speak with your doctor before stopping.

Muscle & Joint Health FAQs

What does this test measure?
Four markers — anti-CCP antibody and rheumatoid factor (autoimmune joint markers), creatine kinase (muscle) and uric acid (gout).
Can it diagnose rheumatoid arthritis or gout?
It provides important clues, but conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and gout are diagnosed on the overall clinical picture, not a single blood result. Your GP will interpret your results in context.
Should I avoid exercise before the test?
Yes — strenuous or unaccustomed exercise can sharply raise creatine kinase, so avoid it for 48 hours beforehand.
Does diet affect the result?
Uric acid can be influenced by a very rich meal or excess alcohol, so it's best to avoid a heavy meal or heavy drinking the night before.
How long do results take?
Results are typically ready within 48 hours of your sample reaching the laboratory, after which a GP reviews and explains them.
Will a doctor explain my results?
Yes. Your results are interpreted by an experienced GP with personalised guidance and any recommended next steps.
How is the sample taken?
A simple blood sample is taken at one of our clinical sites in a short, comfortable appointment of around 15 minutes.
